Kazuko Hohki is an artist, singer, musician, animator, director. performer and storyteller. Kazuko is a founder member of the pop performance group Frank Chickens which had a independent chart hit with "We Are Ninya", released 5 albums and toured worldwide. She has made a trilogy of solo performances based on her experience as a Japanese woman in the UK: 'Toothless', 'The Shining Princess' and 'My Husband Is A Spaceman' with which she has toured UK and worldwide. Her installation based show - 'Evidence For The Existence Of Borrowers' (www.borrowersreunited.com) - has won a Total Theatre award and a Herald Angel award at the 2005 in Edinburgh Festival. She is currently developing a new show - 'Wuthering Heights' - with Colin Carmichael from the theatre group Brian. She has made a new site specific piece 'Oh Doh' based around Kings Road for Chelsea Theatre for their Sacred season in January 2007. She is Associate Artist at BAC and artistic patron for Arts Depot. Kazuko is also currently developing her work as a Director. Is part of the Young Vic 'Genesis directors project. Has directed 'Men Band' by Brian in 2004 and the site-specific piece 'Last Carnival' by Young People's Theatre at BAC in 2005. Has completed Live & Direct at Contact in Manchester in 2006 which is a bursary course for Black and Asian emerging directors. Has directed "Ignorance Is' by Thomas Bowtell in 2007 and participated in the workshop run by Directors Lab Chicago in 2007. Kazuko has toured with the Duckiešs Olivier Award winning C'EST VAUXHALL / CšEST BARBICAN, including performances at Sydney Opera House Studio, Londonšs Barbican Centre Tokyo and kyoto in Japan. They are performing in New York in December 2007 and January 2008. She has worked with Yellow Earth Theatre as a performer and video artist, with Guillermo Gomez-Pena at Tate Modern in London, and also toured with the Clod Emsemblešs THE RED LADIES. She was in 2005 artist in residence at Nuffield Theatre, and University of Lancaster, as part of Arts Council Enlgand's Time and Space pilot scheme for experimental artists. Kazuko received an ArtsAdminšs bursary in 1999, Live Art Development Agency's One to One bursary in 2001. She has completed Sparks, BBC writer's course, in 2004, and her first radio drama 'S' was broadcast on BBC Radio 3 in 2005 and 2006. She has made a documentary feature called THE GOOD WIFE OF TOKYOš for Channel 4 with Kim Longinotto - about Japanese contemporary women in real life.She has presented her own TV series KAZUKOšS KARAOKE KLUBš for Channel 4 in 1989. She has published four books in Japan about her life in London.
